Winter Weather Advisory Extends South of the Lake

Tuesday, January 16, 2018

With a winter weather advisory now forecasted to go into effect at noon today in New Orleans, we’re reminding customers to take all winter weather precautions and keep safety at the forefront. A wintry mix, wind and a hard freeze are expected south of the lake as the afternoon and evening progresses.

Freezing precipitation can accumulate on power lines, trees and tree branches, causing the vegetation to sag into power lines and cause outages. In addition, winds associated with the cold front can affect tree branches as well. Crews are on standby and ready to safely respond as needed.

Also, power outages can take longer to restore in cases of extreme cold, as heaters and other electrical appliances can cause overloading of the system, forcing crews to slowly bring the power back online. Learn more about the challenges of power restoration in cold weather.
