Crews have restored power to approximately 52,000 Entergy Louisiana customers affected by the winter storm that struck Louisiana Friday.

Crews continue to focus efforts on the North Shore area, which was hit hard by Friday’s storm. As of 6 p.m. Saturday, approximately 20,000 customers were without electricity, with more than 15,000 of them in Tangipahoa Parish.

Current estimates are the majority of customers will have power restored by tonight although restoration work will continue until late Sunday in the hardest hit areas.

Some 350 workers, including contingents from other parts of Louisiana as well as Texas and Arkansas, are on the North Shore restoring power to the region. Additional workers are on their way to assist as they finish restoring power in other areas of Louisiana.

Entergy Louisiana has trimmed trees along nearly 500 miles of line on the North Shore so far this year, but the heavy, wet snow that coated the area caused tree limbs from outside the company’s rights of way to break and fall onto power lines, causing a large number of outages across the region.

Below are detailed restoration estimates for the hardest hit North Shore communities.

Hammond

Approximately 12,000 customers remain without power in the Hammond area. Damage assessment is continuing, and additional repair work has been identified. There are over 600 locations that need to be repaired.  Customers within the city limits of Hammond are expected to be restored by late Saturday, Dec. 9. Customers outside the Hammond city limits will be restored by late Sunday, Dec. 10.

Outages are scattered throughout the Loranger area and most customers will be restored Saturday; however, all customers will not be restored until late Sunday, Dec. 10. Approximately 10,000 customers remain without power in the area. Restoration for all customers in these areas should be complete by late Sunday, Dec. 10.
