Restoration Update

Saturday, December 09, 2017

Our restoration workforce is always ready to restore power safely and as quickly as possible through a continuous cycle of planning, preparation and training we call Operation: Storm Ready.

But an unusual weather pattern brought an unexpected level (three to four inches) of heavy, wet snow to the Gulf Coast area. The winter weather knocked out power to about 87,000 customers, with more than 72,000 in Louisiana and nearly 16,000 in Mississippi affected.

We expect most customers will be restored today, with those in the harder-hit areas of Tangipahoa Parish, Hammond and Ponchatoula, Louisiana, and Brookhaven, Natchez and Rankin, Mississippi restored tomorrow.

In addition to our regular workforce, we have moved 160 restoration workers from our Texas and Arkansas areas to help in the restoration. The storm has affected our neighboring utilities, preventing acquisition of additional help from offsite sources at this time.

We have a storm team of some 350 workers on the North Shore with additional workers on their way to assist as they finish restoration work in other areas of Louisiana.
